Hi, friends! I’m popping in with my final post before maternity leave…our Baby Boy Nursery reveal! It’s been a long-time coming (this post, with the before photos and design plan, was published in July!) and I’m so happy that this space is done.
Before we get to the goods, let’s take a look at the before photos and all of the projects that went into this room…
Our Guest Room – Before
When we bought our home, in the spring of 2019, we removed the carpet in this extra bedroom, replaced it with oak hardwoods, painted the walls the color Benjamin Moore “Tarrytown Green”, and replaced the doors and trim. Just those things made a huge difference.
This room was then our extra bedroom/guest room for about two years. I never really put much time or effort into the space and we just furnished it with extra stuff we had. It was a cozy room whenever we had a guest, which was not very often, thanks to the pandemic.
Overall, it was a good blank space for our Baby Boy Nursery design!
The Closet Transformation
I started with the closet, by removing the old wire shelving and patching up all of the holes.
Next, I wallpapered the closet, with the help of my talented friend, Erin, from Relativity Textiles.
Once that gorgeous wallpaper was in, Finn and I built a custom IKEA closet system for lots of extra storage. That project came with quite a few hiccups, but we persevered!
Picture Frame Molding
With the closet complete, I could focus on the rest of the room. By far the biggest DIY in this room was adding picture frame molding to the walls.
While it may look subtle in these pictures, it actually makes such a difference in-person. The molding makes the room feel more high-end and it adds a traditional element that I absolutely adore.
Adding Shelves & Blackout Curtains
With the walls done (it took me at least a week by myself), it was time for the fun part…accessorizing! I hung shelves over the glider and added a bold curtain to the windows.
The curtains were another saga of unfortunate events (this post has all the scoop), but in the end, they turned out amazing. I love the bold pattern in this space, paired with those dark green walls.
