At the beginning of the year, I wrote this blog post outlining all of my home goals for 2021. I love doing this because it keeps me accountable and gives you a glimpse into the content that you might see around here for the year ahead.Creating my 2021 home goals

While we’ve made a good start on our home goals for 2021, we’re shifting course a bit. Now that we have a baby boy on the way, his nursery is jumping up to the top of the priority list and some of the other spaces will be pushed to 2022. I think that’s the nice thing about creating these lists ahead of time. You can take a look at the year as a whole and then shift, based on what happens in your daily life! I’ve never actually had a year where we’ve completed everything on the list, which shows me that it’s good to be a little ambitious.

Let’s take a look at what we’ve crossed off our list, what’s left to do, and the items that we’ll be postponing until next year.

2021 Home Goals – The Master List

Our Organized KitchenTips to organize kitchen cabinets and drawers

I started the year in an organizing frenzy. After living without a kitchen for months, our entire house was in disarray! We took a lot of time organizing the new kitchen and I gave you a peek inside every drawer and cabinet in this post. We even added a charging drawer to keep things extra organized.

Our Main Bedroom MakeoverOur main bedroom makeover

The next project on the list was our main bedroom. It started as a plain and boring space, devoid of any personality, and I’m so happy to say it’s now one of my favorite rooms in the house. The wallpapered ceiling is a favorite feature and I must rave about our new king-sized bed…it’s a lifechanger! I’ve never spent so much time in our bedroom relaxing, unwinding, and catching up on our favorite shows with our Frame TV. I am so happy that we tackled this 2021 home goal right in the beginning of the year.

A New Organized Home Office Closethome tour before and after

Our empty office closet was a pain point for me for the last few years as it was just a room accumulating lots of random stuff. We came up with a design plan for the space, DIY’ed an IKEA closet system, and then organized it from top to bottom. I still love what we did with the closet and plan to tweak it as we move things around with another member joining our household!

Exterior RefreshAnswering replacement windows FAQs

Most recently, we did some work on the exterior of our home. Now, I can’t take any responsibility for this project as we hired it out to a professional mason. But I am so happy that we did it, because the crumbling brick and porch were just getting worse and worse. It’s nice to nip these things in the bud before they become bigger issues. Everything is now looking crisp and clean out there.

2021 Home Goals – What’s Left?Checking in our home goals for 2021

So for six months of work, I’d say we did a pretty good job tackling lots of tasks around our house. But here’s what’s still left to do for the remainder of 2021.

Finish BackyardDecking from TimberTech

We’re still knee-deep in our backyard renovation and I’m hopeful that the pros will be done with their work this week. At that point, Finn and I plan to take over to finish up the space. We will be adding string lights, building DIY planter boxes, and furnishing the entire patio. I think it’s going to be a process and I don’t anticipate a big reveal any time soon. Instead, I’ll share updates as we go. I just want to make sure we’re thoughtful with all of our choices and we give ourselves time to create the backyard of our dreams!

Nursery MakeoverThe current closet in our baby boy's nursery

And finally, the last big project for 2021…the nursery! I’m starting with the closet space where we’ll be adding wallpaper and another custom IKEA closet system. My friend Erin, founder of Relativity Textile,  is actually coming over next week to wallpaper with me, so I’ll be sure to share that entire process soon. And our IKEA system arrives today, so once that wallpaper is in, Finn and I will get in that closet and make it functional for the little guy!Our guest room will soon be another nursery

I’m planning to start a weekly nursery blog post, beginning in July, where I’ll reveal the design plan, the furniture I’ve purchased for the space, and the DIY projects that I’ll complete in this room. My goal is to have everything finished by September, just in case this baby makes an early debut, like Rory did. Fingers crossed we can get it all done over the next two months!

Tasks We’re PostponingPainting a bathroom vanity

  • Main Bathroom Renovation
  • Hallway Upgrades

I originally planned to tackle our main bathroom renovation in the fall, but since I’ll be giving birth, we’re going to push that back a bit. My contractor is booked out for the year, so I told him to put me on his schedule for February 2022. I’ve already worked with a designer to create blueprints for the space, so I figure I’ll start designing and sourcing items in the fall so we can kick off the year with a big project in 2022.Our hallway from our home tour before and after series

As for the hallway, I’m pushing that to spring or summer of 2022 as it’s more of a cosmetic upgrade. Plus, it will be fun to have a large gallery wall with pictures of our new family of four!

How Are Your Home Goals?Setting home goals for 2021 and checking them off

I know some of you mentioned your home goals in the comments of this blog post from January. How are they going? Have you crossed a few tasks off your list? There’s still half a year left to give your home some love. I hope you’ll take a look at that list and reprioritize what’s most important to you and your family.
