Our Morning Celery Juice Recipe

Apparently, Finn and I are really into fads. Like the Marie Kondo craze…we were both all over that and instantly transformed our drawers following her folding method. And now, we’ve hopped aboard the latest trendy train…celery juice! I don’t know how it started, but celery juice is being touted as the new miracle liquid to kickstart your day. People everywhere are making this veggie concoction, so much so that some grocery stores are even running out of celery! Craziness.

As we discussed in this post about our favorite protein bowl, Finn is on a new healthy journey as he has quit gluten, dairy, soy, wheat, and a few more items along the way. In those comments, you guys mentioned how you wanted to hear more about how things are going with his newfound lifestyle so I figured we would check-in every month or so. He has been really into celery juice this year and I thought it would be fun to share more about how he makes it, the juicer we use, and the benefits we’re both seeing thanks to our new morning beverage.

But before we get to that…let’s dive into celery juice.

What’s the Deal with Celery Juice?Celery juice

If you search #celeryjuice on Instagram, you’ll be bombarded with thousands of people showing that celery juice has banished their eczema, cured their acid reflux, rid their bodies of psoriasis, and more. I believe The Medical Medium was the first one to tout these health claims from celery juice, and now people all over the world are drinking it. His instructions are pretty strict when it comes to celery juice though…you must drink it freshly juiced, first thing in the morning, and on an empty stomach.Stalks of celery

I asked my nutritionist about the celery juice craze and she believes those claims are pretty inflated and celery juice isn’t a magical cure for all of your ailments. But she did say that there’s no harm in drinking it. It’s hydrating, loaded with vitamin K, and can be anti-inflammatory. So it’s certainly not a bad thing to add to your diet.

That was enough to get Finn and me on board with this health trend.

Buying a Juicer

Juicer to make celery juice

Obviously, you need a juicer to make celery juice. We didn’t have one. Finn scoured Amazon reading tons of reviews and we landed on this one. It’s not the cheapest model out there, let me tell ya. But because Finn is already pretty limited in what he can eat these days, we figured investing in a kitchen accessory like a juicer might be good for him. Because most fruits and veggies are on his good list, he can make all kinds of juices…not just celery juice.Making celery juice recipe

The juicer we purchased is really nice and sturdy (if that makes any sense). It is well-made and I’m hoping it lasts for a long time. The worst part about any juicer is cleaning it, but it hasn’t been too terrible. Cleaning a juicer

Our biggest advice? Wash it immediately! If you let it sit (even for just a few hours), it’s going to be so much harder to clean with dried on juice and pulp residue. Yuck. Finn will fill our sink with hot soapy water and place each disassembled piece in the water. Our machine then comes with a brush to clean the razor part of the juicer (this part freaks me out a bit). When everything is clean, he rinses and then sits each piece on our countertop to dry. Not too bad.

How We Make Celery JuiceFinn making celery juice

I’m saying how we make celery juice, but the truth is Finn makes it every single time. He’s the master of the kitchen and I just get in the way if I even try. So really, this is how Finn makes celery juice.Pouring celery juice into glass bottles

He’s been making it since the beginning of the year, and pretty much makes it every weeknight. He makes two servings that we can then both drink first thing in the morning. That way he can clean the machine and it can dry overnight and it’s much less of a hassle. If you follow the Medical Medium’s rules, then this is a big no-no. He says to make it fresh every morning, but that just doesn’t work for our lifestyle. Oh well! You’ve gotta do what’s best for you.

The Taste of Celery JuiceDrinking celery juice

Celery juice is definitely a taste you have to get used to because it tastes, well…like celery. Not a ton of flavor and a little vegetably (not a word, but you know what I mean). To make plain celery juice, you just juice celery stalks. 1 bunch makes 2 servings for us, so you do go through a lot of celery if you’re drinking it every single day. Finn holding a bag of celery stalks

We typically buy a few bunches at the grocery store (around $2-3 each) and then Finn comes home and preps. He washes the stalks, cuts off the roots, and places them in baggies so they’re ready to go to make the juice quickly. Celery juice recipe with ginger, apple, cucumber

When we first started juicing, Finn made a celery juice concoction with a few other fruits in there. This is a great way to tip-toe into the celery juice world. I personally love this recipe because it’s refreshing and is filled with other vitamins and minerals that basic celery doesn’t have. We switch back and forth between regular ol’ celery juice and this recipe below depending on how much prep work Finn wants to do and the fresh produce we have in the house.

Side Note: Finn is the ultimate model when I’m the photographer. I tell him to give me “blogger poses” and he definitely gives me his best stuff. hahaha. And how adorable is he with his Playbook gear?!

Look at the juice in there. Aren’t the colors so pretty? The first time Finn made it, I was amazed by how vibrant the green from the celery truly is!

When Finn is done with his masterpiece, he pours them into these glass bottles. They’re amazing and such a great price. It’s great storing them in these because we can make enough for both of us for 2 days. But be sure to drink it as soon as you can though because it will go bad.

How We Feel Drinking Celery JuiceDrinking celery juice everyday

I’ve been drinking this juice every weekday for the past 1.5 months and I’m loving it. I drink it first thing in the morning as I’m getting ready for the day. I then have breakfast and coffee about 20-30 minutes later. On the days I have celery juice, I do think I feel a bit more energized. Primarily because it’s so refreshing! I also love that it’s anti-inflammatory, so I feel like I’m doing some good for my body. While I don’t believe it’s a magical potion, I do enjoy adding more fruits and veggies to my diet in any form!

Finn says he feels “electric” drinking it and he hasn’t felt this good in years (and he looks amazing if I do say so myself!). Although that is mostly due to his radical diet change in general…not just the juice! How to make fresh celery juice

Either way, we’re both big fans and even when it’s not a health fad anymore, I’m guessing we’ll still be over here juicing away! Now, I would love to know…have you tried celery juice? If so, have you noticed any health improvements?
