Like many of you, we both strive to buy clothing that not only reflects our style, but is also comfortable, affordable, and can be worn at work AND on the weekends (did we mention we don’t want to spend a ton of money either).
We know that a lot of the DIY Playbook’s readers are currently in this same exact situation, so hopefully, together we can start this new journey of connecting one another with clothes (and sales!!) that make us all feel confident and comfortable. Don’t get us wrong, we are NOT fashion experts and we are not even fashion-forward, just regular girls trying to have a little fun with our styles all without breaking the bank.
Today’s Fall Favorite: Vests
I LOVE wearing vests in the fall because it’s such an easy way to add layers, pattern, and even a little bit of warmth on those brisk fall mornings or evenings. Plus, I LOVE having the extra-large pockets for days when I want to ditch my purse and just carry the essentials. They’re just so darn easy… what’s not to love?!
My Favorite Vests
My sister’s bought me this grey vest last year for my birthday and I’m literally obsessed with it because it is extremely versatile. It’s a bit pricey at $108 but it’s almost always on sale, so if you’re considering buying one… make sure it’s on sale or buy it this week because it’s currently on sale!!
Last year I added this super affordable military inspired vest to my closet and I love it for pretty much the same exact reasons! It’s versatile, adds an instant layer and can be dressed up or down very easily. I scored mine last year at Target for $25 but unfortunately, this exact one is not available anymore. However, I did link a few other very similar options below if you’re looking to add a military vest to your fall wardrobe.
Styling Vests
As much as I LOVE a lot of the bold vests I see in stores and on social media, I’m glad that mine are more subtle. Personally, I like that both of these vests have more neutral colors and can pair with just about anything… especially since I don’t have a huge closet to store pieces I don’t wear often. I usually pair my vests with a flannel (you guys know I can’t resist a good flannel) but I love both with a sweater, a striped shirt, or just a plain blouse. And depending on the shirt I choose, I can dress the look up or down pretty easily. At times I’ll “dress” the look up a bit with booties or TOMS wedges or for a more casual look, I’ll wear the vest with a hat/gym shoes or even leggings/rain boots.

Fall Staples
As much as I love seeing new vests and how they are paired with different outfit ideas, I don’t think you need to buy a ton. Honestly, having just one fall vest in your closet is plenty (especially if you’re a vest newbie) because it can be added to so many different outfits throughout the fall! I promise, once you buy one you will be shocked at how convenient it is and how much use you get out of it!!
My military vest makes ANOTHER appearance next week when we chat about our favorite sweaters. Here’s a sneak peek…
