We heart NYC. So much so that we decided to fly there for only 10 hours last Thursday.
Yep, call us crazy (it wouldn’t be the first time!) but when given an opportunity to visit one of our favorite cities we figured out how to make it happen….even if that meant flying in and out all in one day.
You guys know we love us some Lowe’s Home Improvement (as evidenced by this post, this post, this one, this one, oh and don’t forget about this post!), so when they invited us to attend an opening of their Lowe’s Manhattan store we both said “heck yes!”
NYC For The Day
With our busy work schedules, we decided we could only swing it if we went for the day. Which means these 2 rookies were in and out in a New York Minute #pungameonfire
Since it was a beautiful summer day (sunny & 80’s) we decided to check out the New York high line. We heard good things, but were never able to make it there on former trips so it was #1 on our to-do list. 
The high line is a 1.45 mile park in Manhattan that is built on an unused, elevated section of railroad. It’s gorgeous and it feels so nice to see some green amongst all of the concrete. It’s definitely worth a visit if you’re in NYC on a nice day. Stroll along with your coffee in hand and take it all in!
After our little stroll, we were famished and ready for some food. We found a small cafe outside in the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood and had a yummy lunch. But let’s be honest, we were both way more excited for our after lunch dessert (or as Bridget calls it…”a chaser.”) We visited Schmackary’s for their insanely delicious (& unique) cookies! We got the funfetti cookie (above) and also a cookie dough chocolate chip one. 
Fueled by sugar, we checked out the garment district and stared longingly at the colorful fabrics.
Wow. Even if you’re not a seamstress (ummmm we certainly are not!), it’s worth checking out this area of the city. So many intricate fabrics and vibrant colors to go gaga over.
We still had some time to spare before the Lowe’s event, so we checked out the Upper West Side a bit. We strolled past so many charming brownstones and loved exploring (& taking pictures of) this adorable neighborhood.
Before we knew it, it was time for the main event. 
The new Lowe’s store is located at 68th & Broadway in Manhattan. We are both used to visiting Lowe’s locations in the suburbs of Chicago (large stores with parking lots), so we didn’t really know what to expect with a store in the middle of NYC.
Lowe’s Home Improvement in NYC
It was way better than anything we could have ever expected. Essentially it’s still the hardware store you love, but it’s geared towards city dwellers and is one-stop-shopping for everything you need when it comes to the home. Even though it has a small footprint, it’s packed with all of your home essentials. So you can pick up typical supplies like paint…
…or you can find a new compact (& colorful!) fridge for your apartment.

But let’s chat about our FAVORITE PART. The home decor aisle! There was an entire section of on-trend home accessories (pillows, lamps, blankets, even a gold bar cart!) all curated by the designer Nicole Gibbons. So that means you can pick up those light bulbs you need, and also come home with a new throw pillow for your sofa. Yeah…that’s our kinda hardware store shopping! #sorryhusbands
We also loved the kitchen & bath areas of the store because they showcase REAL spaces all of which can work in a smaller, city home. 
We both left inspired, wanting to improve every little nook & cranny of our own homes! The city concept of this new Lowe’s store is currently only happening in Manhattan, but we are hopeful that it comes to Chicago soon! We’d love to be able to pop into a Lowe’s in our neighborhood for home supplies, decor, and endless inspiration.
