I am so excited for today’s post because I get to show off my favorite room in our Chicago condo…our master bedroom! And if my master bedroom isn’t your style (hey, not everyone is a lover of neutrals), then you’re in luck because we’re linking up to dozens of other gorgeous bedrooms in today’s Beautiful Bedrooms Tour hosted by Tammy from Pink Peppermint Design.Casey in front of white family room built-ins.

If you’re new here, let me quickly bring you up to speed. I’m Casey and I’m 1/2 of the blogging duo behind The DIY Playbook. My bestie Bridget (the other 1/2 of the duo) is currently sprucing up her new house (tour it here) and her master bedroom isn’t quite ready for its close-up. Soon though…very soon.

Luckily, my Chicago condo (you can see the entire tour here) is just about complete, so I could participate in the Beautiful Bedrooms Tour to represent us both!

Casey’s Master Bedroom

Now that you know a bit more about me, let’s head into my boudoir. Yes, things are getting intimate pretty quickly around here…A gray bedroom with white bedding in the beautiful bedroom tour.

Our bedroom is located in the back of our condo and for city living, it’s actually a really spacious room. It’s one of my favorite spaces because we get so much light through the sliding glass doors that lead out to our small patioGray walls, white bedding, and neutral accents are always a good bedroom combination.

When we purchased our condo almost 3 years ago, the walls in here were bright green. I’m talking kermit-the-frog-green. It was intense and not quite our style. Luckily, a few coats of Benjamin Moore’s “Gray Owl” transformed the look and feel of the space. Here’s the before and after if you want to see for yourself! The wood dresser warms up this master bedroom space.

Besides painting, we had the floors stained darker, added no-sew blackout curtains, installed a bamboo shade, and swapped out the fan for this sleek black one. All that was left to do was add some furniture and style!White campaign style nightstand with brass hardware

The nightstands are vintage and we had them painted by a company called Megmade here in Chicago. I love the glossy white with the brass hardware. Over the nightstand, I have a framed letter from my great-grandmother. It’s a personal touch to the space and I love seeing it every morning when I wake up. This standing mirror from CB2 is a great accessory with black and brass accents.

On the other side of the room, I added a large leaning mirror (here’s how I easily secured it to the wall). I absolutely adore this piece and it adds even more light to the space. Not to mention, it’s a nice spot to check out my ensemble before heading out the door.

Home Office Space

Add a work station to your master bedroom if you don't have room for a designated office space.

We also have our “office” tucked into one of the corners of our master bedroom. Since we live in a 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom condo we have to utilize every square inch of our little slice of the city! This sleek desk is the perfect spot to sit and get work done, but keeping it organized and clean is a must too. I don’t want to have a messy workspace ruining what should be a calming master bedroom retreat. So I follow these tips to keep our home looking its best!

Our Bedding

White bedding and black striped pillows are always a classic combination.

Now, let’s talk about the bed. Playbook readers may notice that my bed is looking a little bit different in these pics. That’s because I’m “trying out” a new way of making it for the spring season. I usually just have my favorite white duvet and then a gray quilt at the foot of the bed like this…Hunter green pillows on a white bed work for a winter look.

But, I’m trying a new look on for size and so far I’m really liking it! I recently visited my sister’s new place and her bed always looks so damn comfy. I’m talking want to swan dive right into the covers and take a deep nap kinda comfy. She folds her duvet at the end of the bed so it’s nice and full and plush down there, and then has regular sheets and a quilt on the actual bed. After seeing her room, I decided to try out the look in my own master bedroom.

My New Way to Make My Bed

The gif above showcases my bed making process. But the first step is my most important step…These bed cords help keep your fitted sheet in place.

I start with this little contraption to keep our fitted sheets in place. We must be wild sleepers because our fitted sheets always used to pop up off our mattress. After finding these on Amazon, our bed has never been better! I’m telling you…a bedding gamechanger!Striped bed sheets with a gray quilt

So I start with the fitted sheet and then do the top sheet. I usually do all white bedding, but with this look your sheets will be showing so I got super wild and bought these sheets with a soft gray stripe. Someone hold me back, I’m getting so daring in my old age. With the sheets on, I add my gray quilt to the bed. How to make your bed so it has the hospital bed tuck.

I do the “hospital fold” on the bottom of the bed to get thing looking really crisp. Essentially that’s where you do a nice 45-degree angle chop with your hand and then tuck everything in. With the bottom secure, I pull both the quilt and the sheet down from the top and create a fold to about the middle of the bed. How to make your queen-sized bed with pillows.

Make sure everything is tucked and looking tidy as you go. Then it’s time for the fluffy duvet (aka the best part!).Fold your duvet cover at the foot of your bed for a plush and full look.

For this, you put the duvet on the foot of the bed, fold it in half, and then fold the top portion over. It gives it a nice fluffy and full look right at the bottom of your bed. How to make your bed so it looks like a Pottery Barn catalog

It makes me want to curl right on top of that quilt and pull the duvet over my head for a quick little afternoon nap. Anyone else?! A serene and neutral master bedroom in the beautiful bedroom tour.

I then added my pillows and boom…my bed has a whole new look!Textured white duvet cover in this master bedroom.

I’m still getting used to the change, but so far I like the little change-up!

And there you have it, friends. A look at our master bedroom for the Beautiful Bedroom Tours. I’ll link all of the sources for the room (& DIY tutorials) below so you can check everything out.
