It’s that time again. The time when every blogger you follow posts incessantly about the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2019. And I suppose I’m right there with them…but I promise that I won’t be over-the-top about the sale because this definitely isn’t a fashion blog!
While I don’t consider myself to be a trendy fashionista (far from it!), I do buy a few quality pieces during this awesome sale (last year I got so many staples: these Madewell jeans, these wedges, this leather jacket, and this top that I still wear on repeat!). I’m not going to inundate you with fashion posts every.single.day over the next few weeks, but I do plan to check in one more time with some more pics of the items I bought from the sale!
Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2019 – Details
The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2019 officially opens to everyone on Friday (and runs through August 4th), so hopefully, my little try-on session will help as you make a shopping gameplan (although things seem to be selling out fast!). I made a list of the things I actually needed before shopping in-store on Friday and it kept me on track (since it can be a little overwhelming!) and prevented some unnecessary purchases! Most of my fall and winter stuff is packed away right now, but I was still able to take a pretty good inventory of what I needed.
My Try-On Session
Today, let’s dive into the details from my try-on session in store. I ended up shopping with my sister and mom and we had an amazing time sifting through all of the racks. I felt like this year’s selection was really, really good. I tried on way more than I usually do and had to put a few pieces back because my purchase was getting out of control. These are my HONEST reviews of these pieces. You guys know that I’m not one to shop, shop, shop…so if I wasn’t 100% in love with a piece, I passed. Luckily, I came away with some favorites from the sale…
FYI: I’m 5’8″, usually wear a medium in tops and a 6-8 in bottoms.
- Size: Medium
- Fit Tip: TTS
- Overall Thoughts: I wanted to pick up a few new tops from the sale to wear this fall and I love this one. It’s only $25 and the wrap look is very flattering. I have a few other wrap tops that are cut a bit too low and I struggle to find the right bra, but this one is perfect and not too revealing. The shirt is shorter, but I think it’s such a cute look with high-waisted jeans. I ended up getting it in the maroon color too (see below).
- Size: 28
- Fit Tip: TTS
- Overall Thoughts: Because these jeans are only $39 I didn’t have high hopes for them. Holy smokes was I wrong! They’re actually sooooo good and I probably would have gotten them even if they were $139. The slight distressing, stretch, and soft feel make them the perfect casual jeans.
- Size: Medium
- Fit Tip: TTS
- Overall Thoughts: This sweater was incredibly comfy, but I didn’t end up taking it home with me. As you can see from my face above, I was a little unsure about it. The price is right, but I didn’t feel like I needed another bulky sweater. But if you’re looking for a cream sweater for fall, it truly is great!
Green Denim
- Size: 28
- Fit Tip: TTS
- Overall Thoughts: It says these are cropped skinny jeans, but these really weren’t that short on me. I love the high-waist and the green color would be a fun addition to any fall wardrobe. I’m obsessed with dark green these days and these could act like a neutral pant for fall. And since they’re not blue jeans, I think you could dress them up for work too!
Striped Tee
- Size: Medium
- Fit Tip: TTS
- Overall Thoughts: This basic t-shirt is only $12. Hell to the yes! If you need some basics (good for layering), then I suggest scooping up a few of these. I already have a lot of v-neck t-shirts, but I did end up getting this striped one!
Cardigan // Striped Tee // Black Jeans
- Size: Medium
- Fit Tip: TTS
- Overall Thoughts: I absolutely loved this cardigan! I feel like they have these soft Madewell cardigans during the sale each year, but I like that this color blocked one is a bit different. Adds a little pop of color to an otherwise neutral outfit. And seriously the softest thing ever…
Black Jeans // Madewell Wrap Top
- Size: 28
- Fit Tip: TTS
- Overall Thoughts: YES! If you need black jeans, these are the ones to buy! I wear black jeans all year round and my old ones were getting a bit worn. These are soft & stretchy, so they hug your curves. They’re the priciest item I bought from the sale, but I know I’ll get my money’s worth out of these bad boys.
Madewell Wrap Top
Madewell Wrap Top // Black Jeans
- Size: Medium
- Fit Tip: TTS
- Overall Thoughts: I have many pieces of clothing from the Texture & Thread line and Madewell (like my favorite dress) and they never disappoint! This wrap top is so cute and they also have it in olive green and blush. It even has a little snap at the top to prevent the v-neck from being a little too deep. I didn’t bring this home with me, although if they had my size in green I probably would have!
Oversized Sweater // Distressed Jeans
- Size: Medium
- Fit Tip: TTS
- Overall Thoughts: My face says it all…this sweater was not for me. I’ve seen other gals style this really well, but it was sooooo bulky and unflattering on me. Nope.
Lightweight Sweater // Dark Jeans
- Size: Medium
- Fit Tip: TTS
- Overall Thoughts: If you need to stock up on some sweaters for the colder months ahead, this is a good one. It comes in tons of colors and was super comfy. I really like this mustard color, but the black and cream are good options too. Plus, a great price at $26!
- Size: 28
- Fit Tip: TTS
- Overall Thoughts: If you need some high-quality denim, these jeans are a great option. I felt like they really made my legs and my butt look good because the fabric stretches, yet clings in all the right places. The raw hem keeps them casual, but the dark wash dresses them up a bit. They allllmost came home with me, but I already have a good pair of dark denim with a raw hem (that I actually purchased at the sale a few years back!).
- Size: Medium
- Fit Tip: I maybe would have sized up to a large for a more casual fit.
- Overall Thoughts: Another inexpensive layering piece that comes in multiple colors. I like the neckline on this and it was a cozy piece to wear. Would look super cute with a vest or jacket (see below for it with my suede jacket!).
Suede Jacket // Dress // Dark Jeans // Henley Top
- Size: Medium
- Fit Tip: TTS
- Overall Thoughts: Last year, I bought this leather jacket during the sale and I wore it constantly all year long. This suede jacket will be my new go-to jacket this year! I absolutely love it. It was certainly an item that I didn’t need, but I liked it so much that it had to come home with me. I feel like jacket sizing can be tough, but the medium worked well for me…not too bulky and not too tight.
Python Jeans // Scoop Neck Tee
Python Jeans
- Size: 28
- Fit Tip: TTS
- Overall Thoughts: There was so much leopard and python in store this year and I actually really loved these python pants. I didn’t expect to really like them (I’m not one for trends), but the price point was great and they fit like a glove. I love the side pocket detail on these too. I picture myself dressing these up for a night out this winter!
Scoop Neck Tee
- Size: Medium
- Fit Tip: TTS
- Overall Thoughts: I’m a big fan of elbow length sleeves because I think they can make your arm look nice and slim. When I worked in TV and would do on-camera segments, I would often opt for plain elbow length tops because there is no arm jiggling when you’re talking. Hahaha! This was a good basic ribbed tee and I scooped it up!
- Size: 10
- Fit Tip: It is probably TTS because I would usually go with a size 8 for dresses and this one was too big on me.
- Overall Thoughts: I shopped on the first day when any Nordstrom card holders were welcome (no Icon or Ambassador status here), and there was already a lot of stuff sold out. I really liked this Madewell dress, but it was too big for me and they didn’t have a size 8 to try on. My mom actually ended up buying it because it was super cute! She plans to wear it with nude heels for an upcoming wedding!
Structured Blazer Jacket // Striped Tee // Distressed Jeans
- Size: Medium
- Fit Tip: TTS
- Overall Thoughts: This blazer is a good one for you working girls out there! I love that it’s knit, so it isn’t too formal. But the collar and structured look keeps it tailored. I didn’t end up getting because I don’t really have anywhere to wear it, but if I was in an office setting I probably would have purchased a few colors (it comes in 8 colors!).
Running Shorts
- Size: Medium
- Fit Tip: TTS
- Overall Thoughts: I’ve been running a few mornings a week (since I don’t have a gym membership anymore) and I’m actually kinda digging it! I don’t have any running shorts (just leggings), so I was happy to find these for only $21!
Tank Top
- Size: Large
- Fit Tip: TTS
- Overall Thoughts: This tank was soft and I liked the racerback but wasn’t super special. I passed on it.
- Size: Medium
- Fit Tip: TTS
- Overall Thoughts: Wow, these babies suck it all in. My tummy felt flat and these felt good on the tush! The colors and sizes were a bit picked over, so I didn’t end up buying these because I already have some black cropped leggings. But if you need some, I highly recommend.
Shoes I Loved
Ugg Boots // Ugg Slip-Ons // Adidas Sneakers
I’m not gonna lie, I left shoe shopping for the end of our shopping trip and I was exhausted by the time I got to this area! I didn’t try any on in store and instead opted to order some online from home. You can tell I’m not a fashion blogger, haha! I loved all of the shoes above, especially those sneakers (so good for me since I mostly wear casual items!).
I’m also eyeing these boots, these booties, and I want to give a PSA to get these waterproof wedges for winter!! I bought them last year (but in the suede) and I wore them nonstop all winter long. Seriously, the cutest winter boot and so comfortable!
