First, allow me apologize for not sharing these pics + progress sooner! I hate when bloggers take foreverrrrrrr in between project updates and I feel like it’s been way too long since I brought you guys up-to-speed on my mini bathroom project. #badblogger
The good great news is that the cliff hanger is over, this bathroom is officially done, and a spot in our house that I was never in love with has me excited for the first time ever!
Shiplap Bathroom Reveal
For only making cosmetic updates and not touching the tile, cabinets or shower, I can’t believe how different this bathroom looks. I would probably vote this entire transformation as one of my most unexpected projects because….
- Bathroom updates weren’t on my DIY radar until I swapped out the builder grade mirror for something more me. [ENTER the SLIPPERY SLOPE OF IDEAS H E R E]
- I feel like my style is evolving to be very light, bright and airy. Yet this space’s bold paint totally contradicted that path…. and I still LOVE it!!
- I never expected to love this space in my house, especially without having the opportunity to change out the vanity, tile, and shower. Yet I made it work and I am unexpectedly heart-eyed over our only bathroom.
This entire process has really taught me that working with what I already have can make more of a difference than I ever anticipated. It also reinforced the fact that making a space so “you” doesn’t have to come with a $10,000 renovation bill.

The DIY shiplap, bold paint, airy/affordable light fixture, round mirror and overall simplicity of this new look feels so much more like “me” now and less builder-grade.
I think it was the final touches that brought it all together. I bought the art from Minted (this print and this print) and framed those two prints with a Michaels Frame (smaller one) and a larger one from Target. The simple two-toned container on top of the toilet now holds an extra roll of toilet paper (love this idea from one of our fav blogs, Chris Loves Julia). I scored the ceramic container for $16 at Crate and Barrel Outlet.
I knew I wanted non-bathroom-ish rug in here and actually had a hard time finding something that was this size but didn’t scream “I BELONG IN A BATHROOM!”. After lots of searching in stores and online, I stumbled across this $12 (!!!) rug at HomeGoods and I’m literally obsessed with it. I wish they made it in every size for such an affordable price. The rug is so soft and makes the space feel a little less bathroom and a bit more stylish. And for $12….Can you even?!! HomeGoods only had one when I was there, but my eyes have been peeled ever since. If I find more, I may stock up on a few of these just in case this one gets run down over time.
The soap dispenser is old but was originally from HomeGoods. The faux succulent is from Target’s clearance section. I love the white, geometric vase and love that it looks real. I’m literally the w-o-r-s-t at keeping succulents alive so I figured this ‘looks-real-yet-requires-zero-maintenance’ plant was the way to go… at least until I get my succulent act together. #wishfulthinking
I’m still loving the mirror and vanity light. Both bring that light and airy feel I love so much to this room, and both work well with the darker, moodier paint.

I’m sure you guys are just as relieved as I am to finally be done with this room. Before we officially move onto the next room (!!) in our house, I want to say THANK YOU for the encouragement, support, and advice you have offered throughout this unexpected bathroom journey.
So many of you have weighed in with paint suggestions and were SO supportive when I shiplapped the bathroom by myself. It’s your kind words and support that makes me love sharing this crazy DIY journey with you.
And since then, so many of you have reached out letting me know that you’re tackling shiplap in your homes and I honestly could not be more excited for you! My favorite part of blogging is connecting with other people who are inspired to make their own homes a place that they LOVE and for that, this bathroom journey has been more than I ever could have hoped it would be.
Thank YOU, thank YOU, thank YOU! I may be moving onto the next thing on my to-do list, but for those of you who are now tackling shiplap, please promise me that you’ll keep me updated on your progress.
