Last week, I showed you my gameplan for my “mini office” in our master bedroom. Here’s a little refresher…And here’s the area where I planned to implement this desk area…After giving the dresser to a friend, ordering a few items online, and accessorizing the space…it now looks like this!
Desk Area in the Master Bedroom
Simple, streamlined, and ready for me to sit down and get to work.
The first thing I did was figure out the right furniture for the area. I saw this white desk on ATGStores.com and liked how “non-bulky” it looked. I didn’t want anything too large for the small corner space, and this simple desk fit the bill perfectly. Plus the dimensions were spot on for the amount of wall space.
It also has 3 roomy drawers, that hold all kinds of office supplies & random goodies (like my growing washi tape collection…)
With the main furniture piece chosen, I started looking for the other office essentials.
Since this is still a bedroom, I didn’t want to do a “real” office desk chair. You know what I mean…a big, bulky chair with wheels? Instead, I chose a simple mid-century inspired chair that can be moved around the house in case we need it for entertaining. It’s comfortable and I love the gray tweed fabric.
This jute pouf is also a fun little addition. It’s nice to have a place to rest my feet under the desk, and again this little guy is so versatile. I can move him around the house because jute goes with just about any decor, or it can just hang back here to give my feet some rest on long work days. No desk is complete without a lamp, and I love the vintage look of this one. It’s the perfect size, and doesn’t take up too much space on the desktop. I got the lamp in polished silver, but it comes in a variety of finishes. With the shorter days in January, this lamp definitely comes in handy.
Adding Picture Ledges
When we chatted about this space last week, I still was unsure about what to do above the desk. Since there are tall ceilings in this room, I knew I needed to do something to draw the eye up (shelves, a gallery wall, etc.). I still had the picture ledges leftover from our old master bedroom, so I decided to give them a try over this desk area.
I’m so happy I went with them. They add some much-needed height, and give the space lots of personality. I tried to incorporate a few different kinds of “art” on the ledges.
I have pictures with thick mats. I also have Instagram pictures from our travels printed from Snapbox, and arranged in a grid.
You’ll also find our DIY home key art, and some framed photos from our anniversary photo session.
On top of the desk, I tried to keep things fairly simple. Desks can turn into drop-zones for paperwork and clutter, and I’m determined to keep this one in tip-top shape. If not, it is going to overwhelm the bedroom and the last thing I want is to make our master bedroom less of a calming oasis.
Loving My Office Area in the Bedroom
At first, I was a little worried about putting this work area in our bedroom. But I am completely smitten with the new space. Our bedroom is my favorite room in the house, and now I get to spend even more time in there getting work done on the weekends.
Plus, it certainly beats my previous work area (aka the kitchen island or the middle of my bed…)
